About Embedded Librarians

Embedding a librarian into your courses provides personalized research support for your students in asynchronous and face to face classes. The embedded librarian will collaborate with faculty to create assignments and supplemental learning resources to help students build information literacy and research skills. Librarians and faculty work together to establish the time periods and involvement in the class.

Embedded Librarian Services

Librarians and faculty will collaborate to determine which activities and services will be provided in the class.  

Assignments

  • Feedback on research based assignments.
  • Design library assignments that teach information literacy and research skills.
  • Provide research support to students working on classroom assignments.

D2L Integration

  • Participate in classroom discussion boards.
  • Send announcements highlighting library services or resources
  • Targeted research support

Tutorials and Videos 

  • Create assignment specific videos and tutorials and Research Guides
  • Recommend or create concept based support materials for example: Evaluating Information, Choosing Research Topics or MLA/ APA Citations.

Student Support in the Classroom

  • Hold Office Hours or Individual research appointments with students
  • Library Instruction Sessions and Workshops
  • Build rapport and community with students
  • Answer student questions

  1. Complete the embedded librarian request form.
  2. The librarians will contact you to discuss your needs and ideas for an embedded librarian.
  3. Submit a 5 Star Request to add a librarian as an instructor to your D2L course(s).
